Time Capsule

Time Capsule

  1. I would put in a DVD/BlueRay player because they probably would be a very different in the future than today, 100 years from now it would probably be more advanced and easier to use.
  2. I would put in the entire series of Supernatural because it is a very important show for me and I would want to share it with everyone in the future. It would be worth it because I put in a DVD player to play it.
  3. I would put in an iPhone 6 because there will probably be more than the version they will have 100 years from now, so people can compare it to what they have for a phone then.
  4. I would put in a tooth brush because I would put in an electric toothbrush and a non electric one because it probably would be more advanced 100 years from now and they would have something really cool I think.
  5. I would put in a lighter because they would probably have something similar to what we have now but I would put it in there to compare to what they have 100 years from now.

Dear 2115 people,
My name is Nicole Nash, I am 15 years old and I’m in grade 10. If you are reading this I am 100 years old and I'm probably dead but I'm alive right now so I’ll continue, 2015 is a very interesting year. A lot of things happened over the decade, on February 4, 2004 the famous social media site Facebook was launched by Mark Zuckerberg and in November 11, 2001 the New York City twin towers were attacked by terrorist forcing two planes to crash into the buildings terrorizing the city. Also America got there first African american president Barack Obama following that on May 2, 2011 the president caught and killed the terrorist who caused a lot of pain, Osama Bin Laden. June 25, 2009 The King of pop Michael Jackson died from Cardiac Arrest induced by Intoxication.
In the year 2005 there were a massive hurricane, known as hurricane Katrina which caused multiple deaths and destroyed mostly everything, it lasted 2 days and it was the most deadliest hurricanes to hit. Just a year ago on June 4th, 2014 there was a man named Justin Bourque in Moncton that was walking around armed and shooting people which resulted in the death of three RCMP officers and injured two others.
Well I think I have mentioned everything I can remember about what happened in this decade except for the Ebola outbreak we had in the month of February 2014. Ok, so long future people, hope you have better decades than we did.

Childrens Story

Gurbi and Whitney

Once upon a time there was an orange female cat named Gurbi who lived in a big house with people who had lots of money. She was a happy cat who was loved everyday and nothing could break her mood, until one day her owners decided that their daughter who just turned 7 that she needed a cat of her own. Gurbi began thinking about reasons why they would do this, the first thing that came to mind was that I just wasn’t enough for them anymore. The main reason she thought about was because she was no longer a kitten anymore.

Three days later on a Saturday her owner went to the pet store to buy a new cat. They came home with a female pure snow white cat with beautiful baby blue eyes. All day Gurbi had to listen and watch everybody having fun with the new cat, Gurbi tried to get there attention but no one seemed to be paying any attention to her. Gurbi soon got jealous and couldn’t take it anymore, she was sad that she would end up all alone. She decided to give up for the day and left to go sleep in her playhouse.

The morning came and Gurbi woke up thinking it was all a dream but she woke up to the new cat cuddling her. Gurbi got up and woke up the new cat, she knew that they must've named her by now but she was still going call her the “new cat”. Gurbi looked at the new cat and they finally had their first conversation.

“You must be Gurbi” the new cat said,

Gurbi was tempted not to answer her but she knew that she wasn’t that kind of cat. She quickly remembered that this was there first time meeting, how would the new cat know my name already she only just got here.

“Yes, you must be the new cat” Gurbi said,

“Yeah, my name is Whitney. I hope you don’t mind me being here, this is my third time being in a different home in the last two weeks” she sadly said.

Gurbi soon felt sorry for Whitney and wondered why an owner wouldn’t keep her around.

“What do you mean?” Gurbi said confused.

“I have had three different names in the last two weeks from other owners who adopted me and then they would bring me back to the shelter because they didn’t like the way I ate too much” Whitney said with her head staring at the ground.

She certainly sounded sad and shy when she said that.

I knew it was going to be time to eat breakfast soon and i was genuinely sad for Whitney right now, I tried to reassure her that our owners weren't like that, that they would love her for who she was. I know now that I was being too judgemental and Whitney wasn’t really that bad once you think about it, shes just like any other cat or kitten. I then was thinking that I was going to have to stand up for her, I was beginning to think that we were going to be best friends.

It's been a year and Gurbi and Whitney still live together and are best friends.

Two years from now they were getting closer and then got in a big fight that tour them apart.

Four years from now they became friends again and thought of each other as family.

Review of a Children Story

Review

In these stories they approach characterization very well by relating to cute children things and also by making it a very good learning experience for kids at the same time. These stories appeal to kids because they like animals and cute little things. A story that would be appealing to little kids would be “kitty wants a box” because its quick to the point and it makes for a good learning experience. Invisible Alligators although it makes no sense at all it appeals to little kids because they have imagination and they can understand how it works. Ollie’s Jar speaks on how people can be friends and relate to each other it portrays friendship and sharing.

How to Make your Mother do Stuff for you

How to Make your Mother do Stuff for you

Step #1- Can you act?: Wake up in the morning and be in a good mood, even if you’re not just pretend. Talk to your mom and say “Good morning, how are you?” or “How did you sleep?”, sit and have a little chat.

Step #2- Can you cook?: If she is not cooking breakfast then cook breakfast for her even if its just toast or something very simple, make a plate for yourself and eat with her.

Step #3- Can you make conversation?: While at the table with whatever you are eating and wherever you're eating then make a conversation first about plans for the day.

Step #4- Do you know when to leave?: If her plans for the day include work then quickly finish your plate, put the plate in the dishwasher or sink and slowing make your way to your room (if she asks you what plans YOU have then you say you don’t know yet).

Step #5- Can you give a good compliment?: Quickly get dressed and then when your mom gets dressed help her pick out her outfit, compliment her on everything. (if she starts to suspect something is wrong or you're being different, just say that you're in a good mood and then walk away).

Step #6- Can you wait?: When you walk away go into your room for like 10 minutes. Then you find her and ask her what you want from her but act like you just thought of it so she doesn't expect you were planning this all along.

Step #7- Did you do it right?: At this point she should say yes, but if she doesn’t then you did it all wrong and you're just not capable of being in a good mood or being nice to your mother, even if its just to get what you want.

Tips:

  1. If you're making breakfast, then I would suggest you to cook something like bacon or eggs or just eggs.
  2. Don’t make it obvious when you leave the table that you're trying to get out of there too quickly.
  3. Compliments- “Thats pretty”, “Thats nice”, “I like that” or “Nice choice”.
  4. If you're not sure 10 minutes is enough then you wait 20 but no longer.
  5. If your mom say’s no then she just doesn't want you to do anything today, and you're screwed.

"How To" Article Review

How to Make Instant Coffee

I chose this how to article because I love coffee and I have no idea how to make coffee only if its from a keurig machine, little on make a cup from scratch.

This is a good article because it does a great informational detailed step buy step explanations, at the same time it makes it interesting because it explains how simple it is and it provides good pictures of what it should look like at the time of the step. Its easy to follow and understand. It stops sometimes in the middle of a paragraph to make a note, which is good because if it wasn't there you probably wouldn't turn out the way you wanted.

They could make it better by putting maybe a video of them making it. If I were to rate this article out of 20 I would have to give it maybe 15/20. I think they should add the potential dangers of the step by step process, s they are aware of what could happen if they don't be careful.

Movie Review (Finding Forrester)

Finding Forrester

Finding Forrester is a movie shown in December 22, 2000, it’s an American drama film written by Mick Rich and directed by Gus Van Sant. The main actors in this movie are Sean Connery, Rob Brown, F. Murray Abraham and Anna Paquin. This movie was distributed by the production company called Columbia Pictures. The movies editor is Valdis Oskarsdottir and their  Cinematography is Harris Savides.

This is about an African-American teenager Jamal Wallace (Rob Brown), who is invited to attend  a prestigious private high school. By accident Jamal meets a famous writer named William Forrester (Sean Connery) and as they spend more and more time together they become closer. This friendship blossoms throughout the film and is based on William teaching Jamal writing skills. Jamal makes a promise to William to keep his identity a secret and to tell no one that they know eachother, but his friendship is put to the test by a strict and desperate english teacher looking to make Jamal's life harder. When Jamal needs William the most he’s not there to save him from losing his scholarship and saving him from embarrassment.

This movie relates a little bit to the movie “To Kill A Mockingbird”. The character William Forrester relates to Boo Radley in “To Kill A Mockingbird”, Boo Radley relates because he is always looking out a window at the kids Scout and Jem and he is completely cut off from society; just like William, he refuses to go outside making him cut off from society.

The acting in this movie was well and the movie was very well written. Also, the films music and sound was amazing.

Film Review

Girl Power on the Boys Soccer Team

The movie "She's the Man" is a movie I have seen about a thousand times, it came out in 2006 and I loved it ever since. The movie is about a a girl who goes to a school where the girls soccer team got cut, she loves soccer and when she finds out that her twin brother is going away to London in the middle of the school year. Her brother goes to a different school so she fingers that she is going to dress up like her brother and play for the boys soccer team. There are complication with keeping her secret and the biggest complication is she falls in love with her room mate. The basic point of this movie is she needs to prove that girls are just as good as boys.

I have read the review on the New York Times by Nathan Lee, published March 17, 2006. In this review it tells us what its about, but does not tell us to much because they don't want to give it away and spoil it for everyone that hasn't seen it. The point of reviews is to tell someone that hasn't seen the movie but wants to see it if its good or not and rate it.

I have watched this movie more than once and if anyone asked if I had any good movie to watch I would recommend it completely. I like this movie because its a romantic movie and I'm a sucker for a romantic film.

The Noise (Descriptive Writing Piece)

The Noise

Ring, ring, ring I hear in annoyment as I awaken from my slumber I try to open my heavy eye lids but I know if I do I will see the bright light of the sun through my bedroom window. As I sit still with my dark green eyes still closed, forcing myself to go back to sleep, I can feel a chill of cold air making me grow goosebumps on my now rough skin; I quickly start to pull my green blankets completely over my entire body. I then realized that the annoying ring has stopped, its complete silence except from the heater that has just started up.

I hear my mom's loud morning voice babbling away to someone who is probably doing the same thing she is; which is making a steaming sizzling hot breakfast consisting of bacon and eggs. At this particular time I am hungry; just because I smell the yummy food that is making its way through every crack or opening into my room. So I hall myself out of bed and make my way down stairs to the kitchen, my tired eyes are still adjusting but I can see and hear my mother by the telephone talking to someone loudly.

The telephone is located in the living room  which is basically connected to the kitchen, I sit down because I want to eat but sadly its not ready yet so I sit down patiently and just wait for my mother to yell so the whole neighbourhood can hear that breakfast is ready! My mom sounds like she's finishing the conversation or at least trying to. Our big comfy couch is next to the brown chestnut end table that holds the black telephone.

Ring, ring, ring the sound it makes again as its black handle wiggles from the rest, it lays on, Black and silver telephone ringing noisy; the silver part of it is just for the roman numerals and the body is char coal black. As I sit there at the table with what appears to be now my breakfast I can't help but stare at the curly cord that's connected to the black telephone that sits right across from me; and four meters, ringing in its usual annoying fashion!

Writing Inventory
By:
Nicole Nash

Now I don’t do much writing in my spare time but I do want to learn more about it, mostly because I’m not really that good with writing stories. My favorite kind of writing is fiction, like science fiction, and why I like this kind of writing is because I like reading about stuff I would know nothing about in real life; probably because it keeps me interested. The thing that comes easy for me is writing about my life and stuff that happened to me.

What challenges me is writing stories about a title that is given to me or doing some sort of response to something. To write a story about my life I usually go for important moments in my life; up to when I was a kid to now. Right now in English class I am writing a book report that I think is going pretty good but I can’t be completely sure. I would say I’m especially proud of the book report I’m currently writing.

Sometimes when I write i don’t even do draft copies; it all just comes to me, but if I do end up doing a draft copy its just one. I feel my strengths in writing is know how to explain curtain details about things, maybe it could be an object; but what is not my strengths are doing quotation marks and little stuff like that.

If I had to choose my favorite subject to write about it would be math, just because I like to learn new ways to find out different equations and simple stuff like that, its just something about math that makes it easier to learn. So my second choice would have to be science, basically for the same reason I like math.

My goals as a writer is to be more spontaneous and inspirational.
