"How To" Article Review

How to Make Instant Coffee

I chose this how to article because I love coffee and I have no idea how to make coffee only if its from a keurig machine, little on make a cup from scratch.

This is a good article because it does a great informational detailed step buy step explanations, at the same time it makes it interesting because it explains how simple it is and it provides good pictures of what it should look like at the time of the step. Its easy to follow and understand. It stops sometimes in the middle of a paragraph to make a note, which is good because if it wasn't there you probably wouldn't turn out the way you wanted.

They could make it better by putting maybe a video of them making it. If I were to rate this article out of 20 I would have to give it maybe 15/20. I think they should add the potential dangers of the step by step process, s they are aware of what could happen if they don't be careful.

Movie Review (Finding Forrester)

Finding Forrester

Finding Forrester is a movie shown in December 22, 2000, it’s an American drama film written by Mick Rich and directed by Gus Van Sant. The main actors in this movie are Sean Connery, Rob Brown, F. Murray Abraham and Anna Paquin. This movie was distributed by the production company called Columbia Pictures. The movies editor is Valdis Oskarsdottir and their  Cinematography is Harris Savides.

This is about an African-American teenager Jamal Wallace (Rob Brown), who is invited to attend  a prestigious private high school. By accident Jamal meets a famous writer named William Forrester (Sean Connery) and as they spend more and more time together they become closer. This friendship blossoms throughout the film and is based on William teaching Jamal writing skills. Jamal makes a promise to William to keep his identity a secret and to tell no one that they know eachother, but his friendship is put to the test by a strict and desperate english teacher looking to make Jamal's life harder. When Jamal needs William the most he’s not there to save him from losing his scholarship and saving him from embarrassment.

This movie relates a little bit to the movie “To Kill A Mockingbird”. The character William Forrester relates to Boo Radley in “To Kill A Mockingbird”, Boo Radley relates because he is always looking out a window at the kids Scout and Jem and he is completely cut off from society; just like William, he refuses to go outside making him cut off from society.

The acting in this movie was well and the movie was very well written. Also, the films music and sound was amazing.

Film Review

Girl Power on the Boys Soccer Team

The movie "She's the Man" is a movie I have seen about a thousand times, it came out in 2006 and I loved it ever since. The movie is about a a girl who goes to a school where the girls soccer team got cut, she loves soccer and when she finds out that her twin brother is going away to London in the middle of the school year. Her brother goes to a different school so she fingers that she is going to dress up like her brother and play for the boys soccer team. There are complication with keeping her secret and the biggest complication is she falls in love with her room mate. The basic point of this movie is she needs to prove that girls are just as good as boys.

I have read the review on the New York Times by Nathan Lee, published March 17, 2006. In this review it tells us what its about, but does not tell us to much because they don't want to give it away and spoil it for everyone that hasn't seen it. The point of reviews is to tell someone that hasn't seen the movie but wants to see it if its good or not and rate it.

I have watched this movie more than once and if anyone asked if I had any good movie to watch I would recommend it completely. I like this movie because its a romantic movie and I'm a sucker for a romantic film.

The Noise (Descriptive Writing Piece)

The Noise

Ring, ring, ring I hear in annoyment as I awaken from my slumber I try to open my heavy eye lids but I know if I do I will see the bright light of the sun through my bedroom window. As I sit still with my dark green eyes still closed, forcing myself to go back to sleep, I can feel a chill of cold air making me grow goosebumps on my now rough skin; I quickly start to pull my green blankets completely over my entire body. I then realized that the annoying ring has stopped, its complete silence except from the heater that has just started up.

I hear my mom's loud morning voice babbling away to someone who is probably doing the same thing she is; which is making a steaming sizzling hot breakfast consisting of bacon and eggs. At this particular time I am hungry; just because I smell the yummy food that is making its way through every crack or opening into my room. So I hall myself out of bed and make my way down stairs to the kitchen, my tired eyes are still adjusting but I can see and hear my mother by the telephone talking to someone loudly.

The telephone is located in the living room  which is basically connected to the kitchen, I sit down because I want to eat but sadly its not ready yet so I sit down patiently and just wait for my mother to yell so the whole neighbourhood can hear that breakfast is ready! My mom sounds like she's finishing the conversation or at least trying to. Our big comfy couch is next to the brown chestnut end table that holds the black telephone.

Ring, ring, ring the sound it makes again as its black handle wiggles from the rest, it lays on, Black and silver telephone ringing noisy; the silver part of it is just for the roman numerals and the body is char coal black. As I sit there at the table with what appears to be now my breakfast I can't help but stare at the curly cord that's connected to the black telephone that sits right across from me; and four meters, ringing in its usual annoying fashion!

Writing Inventory
By:
Nicole Nash

Now I don’t do much writing in my spare time but I do want to learn more about it, mostly because I’m not really that good with writing stories. My favorite kind of writing is fiction, like science fiction, and why I like this kind of writing is because I like reading about stuff I would know nothing about in real life; probably because it keeps me interested. The thing that comes easy for me is writing about my life and stuff that happened to me.

What challenges me is writing stories about a title that is given to me or doing some sort of response to something. To write a story about my life I usually go for important moments in my life; up to when I was a kid to now. Right now in English class I am writing a book report that I think is going pretty good but I can’t be completely sure. I would say I’m especially proud of the book report I’m currently writing.

Sometimes when I write i don’t even do draft copies; it all just comes to me, but if I do end up doing a draft copy its just one. I feel my strengths in writing is know how to explain curtain details about things, maybe it could be an object; but what is not my strengths are doing quotation marks and little stuff like that.

If I had to choose my favorite subject to write about it would be math, just because I like to learn new ways to find out different equations and simple stuff like that, its just something about math that makes it easier to learn. So my second choice would have to be science, basically for the same reason I like math.

My goals as a writer is to be more spontaneous and inspirational.
