Newspaper Entry #1

Journal Entry
Reflection Entry #1 – First Newspapers

The delivery of information:
Compared to today, readers learned to trust certain bylines and to understand signs of importance, such as the screaming banner headline. Most people believe the newspaper will never be replaced by a computer screen. Newspapers receive the majority of their profits from ads and subscriptions and what isn’t helping is the internet. The only change is that innovation is the key for newspapers to remain relevant in today’s technologically savvy world. Though different audiences may have different preferences, the demand for in depth reporting remains the same. Times are changing and newspapers are quickly realizing that the methods of the internet might be more popular for the younger generation to read.
In the upcoming decade, flexibility and a willingness to experiment with new methods, will likely be the factors that determine whether a newspaper survives or falters. The only change is that innovation is the key for newspapers to remain relevant in today’s technologically savvy world.

Newspaper suppression:
I don't think the government should have any more power than what they have. When you think about it they have complete control over you and nothing of that sort is good for anybody. If the government gains ANY more power we will be so damn poor and they will be rich, also the world will become rebellious and will react in some sort of violet way. So my opinion is do NOT give the government any more power over anything!

Publishing today:
I think that many newspapers today still are critical about the government, because it lets people know there point of view. It lets people know other peoples thoughts on business. Now we are able to speak our minds and voice our opinions on things. If the government shuts down most of the media organizations or newspaper, how would people express themselves? Also, it helps the government to know what the community thinks of their ways and might give them ideas to improve it.

Newspapers in Canada:

I was surprised that the first newspaper in Canada was published in Halifax. I thought it would have been published in a more populated city, like Montreal or Toronto. Although Halifax is relatively big it’s not as big as Toronto or Montreal. If not, it should have been published in the capital of Canada which is Ottawa. Halifax is just the capital of Nova Scotia.
